Shelco is trying to see that the South will rise again -- the southeast, that is. One of the largest contractors in the southeastern US, Shelco specializes in the construction of warehouse and distribution facilities; educational, manufacturing, retail, and health care facilities; and office buildings. Repeat customers account for nearly three-quarters of Shelco's business. Not content to stay in its home state of North Carolina, the company is also active in South Carolina, Georgia, and Virgina. The company was founded in 1978 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina by Charles and Edwin Shelton. The Sheltons owned the company until 2003, when they sold Shelco to six senior managers.
