The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association promotes its orchestra, which is one of Southern California’s leading performing arts institutions. The orchestra, often known simply as the LA Phil, performs orchestral and chamber music, jazz, world music, and holiday concerts at the Walt Disney Concert Hall (in winter) and the Hollywood Bowl (in summer). The orchestra that would become the Los Angeles Philharmonic was originally founded and financed back in 1919 by copper baron and music enthusiast William Andrews Clark, Jr. The Association was officially formed in 1976 but traces its roots to the beginning of the orchestra.
