Maine Medical Center (MMC) makes healing happen for the residents of northern New England. Part of MaineHealth, the not-for-profit medical center consists of a tertiary care community hospital, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and outpatient clinics. Specialty services include cancer care, geriatrics, emergency medicine, cardiovascular care, rehabilitation, neurology, orthopedics, and women’s health. Through its partnership with the Tufts University School of Medicine, the 640-bed teaching hospital provides a variety of medical education and training programs. MMC also conducts research through the Maine Medical Center Research Institute. The medical center was founded in 1874 with 40 beds.
